These homemade gummy bears are an easy way to include gut-healing nutrition in your diet. They couldn’t be simpler to make. If you’re hooked on sweets, these will help you make the transition to a lower-sugar way of life.
Homemade gummy bear ingredients
You can make homemade gummy bears with just 5 ingredients:
- Frozen fruit: I used strawberries for this recipe, but you could also use blueberries, mango or mixed berries. If you use wild blueberries they have a tarter flavour, so you might want to add an extra tablespoon of honey to the mixture. Taste the mixture in step 2 being careful not to burn your mouth and adjust the sweetness as desired.
- Water: To help blend the fruit and create a liquid.
- Lemon juice: For a fresh citrus flavour and extra vitamin C.
- Gelatine: Use pasture-raised gelatine for this recipe.
- Honey: To balance out the flavours.
How to make homemade gummy bears
Before you get started you need a gummy bear mould, although any silicone mould will do you if you’re not fussed about the shape of your gummies! Making homemade gummy bears is a 3-step process, the longest part is waiting for your gummies to set. Let’s get started:
- Blend. Place the strawberries, water and lemon juice into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Heat. Pour into a small saucepan and sprinkle the gelatine evenly over the top of the mixture and set aside for 5 minutes. It will thicken as the gelatine absorbs the liquid. Place the saucepan over a low heat, add the honey and whisk gently for 5 minutes, or until smooth and thin.
- Chill. Pour the mixture into silicone gummy bear moulds, place on a baking tray and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 2 hours to firm up. Remove from the moulds and store in an airtight glass container in the fridge.
