Curly sweet potato fries are easily made with a spiraliser. These curly sweet potato fries are baked in the oven until perfectly crispy and sprinkled with a generous amount of seasoning for a delicious flavour.
Baked curly fries don’t come out quite as crispy as deep-fried curly fries. Some parts get a little crispy, but after they come out of the oven they soften quickly. It’s just how baked sweet potato recipes are, because sweet potato has quite a bit of moisture.
But there’s so much flavour in these curly fires that I don’t think you’ll mind. Especially given all the nutritional benefit of sweet potatoes, particularly in relation to ovulation and progesterone.
Sweet potatoes and fertility
Sweet potatoes contain plant nutrients called carotenes (also known as carotenoids). They are present in yellow, orange and leafy green fruits and vegetables and provide the beautiful golden hue (ever notice how leafy greens turn yellow? That’s the beta carotene!).
Did you know that your ovaries also contain carotenes? One study found the presence of up to fourteen different types in ovarian tissue! Carotenes may support ovulation and the second half of your cycle (luteal phase). When you ovulate the follicle collapses and produces progesterone to nourish your womb lining. The collapsed follicle gets its name ‘yellow body’ because it contains carotenes.
That’s not all, carotenes also support male fertility because they are antioxidants, and studies have linked beta-carotene with improved sperm concentration. A good reason to get a batch of these sweet potato curly fries in the oven!
Tips for crispy curly sweet potato fries
A few tips to make these spiralised sweet potatoes as crispy as possible:
- Spread them evenly on the baking tray and don’t let them overlap – use two trays if necessary.
- Use kitchen scissors to snip longer sprialised strands to give them more space on the baking tray.
- You could try baking them on a cake cooling rack, placed on top of a baking tray to allow more air to circulate around the sweet potato fries.
Hunter & Gather tomato ketchup
I love to serve these curly sweet potato fries with Hunter & Gather tomato ketchup. I love this ketchup because it’s low-sugar, unlike most store-bought ketchups. And as you know, keeping sugar intake down is important for optimal fertility. It is also free-from unhealthy seed and vegetable oils. Use the code CHARLOTTEGRAND for 10% off your order.
Did you know that tomatoes can support male fertility? Tomatoes contain lycopene, it is lycopene that give tomatoes their vibrant colour. Lycopene is an antioxidant that has been shown to improve sperm concentration and motility!
